THE WAY IT WAS
New Book Recounts Man's
Life, Memories of a Simple Era
Today's world is a complex cornucopia of
cell phones, high-speed internet, fast-paced business and 300-channel
satellite systems. It wasn't long ago that people spent their days with
less distraction, when family mattered more than work and conversation was
a major pastime. Charles R. Castellaw invites readers back to that time
with his new memoir, THE WAY IT WAS.
Castellaw recounts his story, beginning
with his birth in the early 1920's to a young farm couple in Holly Grove,
Tennessee. His early memories are shaped by the Great Depression as his
family toils away on their farm. He falls in love with Betty Jo Matthews,
but they drift apart after World War II. However, he never forgets his first
love, Betty Jo. His life isn't complete until he finds Betty Jo, now
his second wife. His inspiring
story is a heartwarming testament to true love.
With a keen eye for detail, he recounts his
life, from the plough fields of Tennessee to the terrifying fox holes of
World War II. Castellaw vividly captures a bygone time and culture. THE
WAY IT WAS is one man's heartfelt story of a simple time.
As a veteran of World War II in the European
Theater, Castellaw brings horror, humanity and humor to the movements of
his unit and personal encounters along the way. He was a front line foot
soldier in the Third Infantry Division. A small thread winds throughout
Castellaw's memoir. Castellaw has never revealed many of those
events and it has taken sixty years for him to tell his story.
